On Friday 16th August we held our Emergency Fire & Safety Conference & Exhibition 2013 at the Titanic Belfast which was a great success.
Registration was from 8.00am and we were pleasantly surprised that a large number of delegates arrived shortly after 8.00am and enjoyed the lovely breakfast Titanic had put on. Over 100 delegates attended the conference which was officially opened by Minister Arlene Foster and followed by Kevin and Jamie from EFS Ltd simulating an accident and performing first aid.
We had a great ion of exhibitors on the day which ranged from safety consultancy to safety equipment and specialist expertise.
Before lunch we heard from Chris Solomons from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance crew and who told us his story of suffering a massive cardiac arrest and being saved by his colleaguesusing a defibrillator while at work. This was very moving as he showed footage of the incident as it happened and bore testimony to the fact that without a defibrillator and the help of his colleagues he would not be alive today.
All delegates were then shown basic skills in CPR and the use of an AED or defibrillator using HeartSine training defibrillators and Arrhythmia Alliance mini annies. Members of the Commonwealth Lifesaving Team were on hand to help guide delegates and answer any questions.
After a lovely lunch which provided an opportunity to again view exhibitors and network we started our break out sessions. Finally at 3.20pm Keith Morrison, Chief Executive of HSE NI drew names for our prize draw. The main prize which was a HeartSine defibrillator was very appropriately won by Chris Solomons wife Pam who has decided to donate it to a local community group in her local area. Keith then closed the Conference exactly on time!
The Conference was a massive success and was due to the great sponsors, speakers, exhibitors, delegates who attended, the Titanic staff and all those that provided help. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback we have received not only on the day itself but since as we are still receiving emails and letters of congratulations.
We look forward to running more events next year (after we take it easy for a while) so watch this space!
